About Math Direct
Math Direct is a free, open-source math program designed to teach children ages 5–10 (grades K–4) foundational math skills through structured, scripted lessons.
What It Is
Math Direct provides 150 lessons organized into 7 phases, covering numbers 0–100, counting, addition, subtraction, place value, and mental math. Every lesson includes a word-for-word script so any adult—teacher, parent, or tutor—can deliver effective instruction without prior training.
The program is built on the principles of Direct Instruction (DI), an evidence-based teaching methodology developed by Siegfried Engelmann. DI uses clear communication, structured sequencing, and immediate feedback to accelerate learning and reduce errors.
Why We Built It
Many children struggle with early math not because the content is hard, but because instruction is inconsistent. DI solves this by removing guesswork from teaching. Every concept is introduced systematically, practiced to mastery, and reviewed regularly.
We believe every child deserves access to high-quality math instruction regardless of their school, location, or family income. Math Direct is completely free, requires no accounts, collects no data, and runs entirely in the browser.
Who Made This
